The curriculum is theme-based and designed to support learning through play, art and music. Many activities are introduced to address cognitive and language skills such as problem-solving, reasoning, experimenting, creativity, and listening/responding. Also introduced will be the concepts of gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills; using the bigger movements of the body, such as jumping and running, and fine motor skills; using the small muscles of the fingers, toes, lips, and wrists.
The curriculum provides a variety of hands on activities such as block building, storytelling, creative dramatics, math manipulatives, sensory play, music and movement and experimenting with an assortment of art materials.
A program we use with the older class is Handwriting Without Tears, "Get Set for School" Pre-K Curriculum. Here they develop important skills such as: language proficiency, color and shape awareness, fine and gross motor control, letter and number recognition, counting abilities and social skills. More information can be found on line at www.getsetforschool.com
The children will develop independence and language interaction as they play with their peers and learn personal responsibility. Through taking turns, sharing, listening and expressing their feelings they will continue to develop socially with their classmates.
